For the first time in the history of Kannada cinema, a film based on rock band is being made and that is ‘Kaaranjji’. No, it’s definitely not a remake of Hindi super hit ‘Rock on’, but Kannada’s very own version about a rock band and its journey to success. Vijay Raghavendra who has been starving for a big success in his real life also has played the role of a head of a rock band. ‘Sur’ girl Gauri Karnik plays the female lead. Narayanaswamy, Chandrashekhar forms the rest of the star cast. Debutante Sridhar himself has written the story, screenplay and dialogues of the film. Newcomer Veer Samarth who has carved himself a niche in Hindustani Classical music and has worked under stalwarts like Ravindra Jain, Suresh Wadkar has given the music for this film. This is his third film as a music director after ‘Gandhi Smiles’ and ‘Shivamani’. For this film he has remixed some famous folk songs as well as some old Kannada movie songs. Santha Shishunaala Sharieff’s ‘Kumbaarakki’ sung by Sukhvinder Singh, T.P. Kailasam’s ‘Kolike Ranga’ sung by Veer Samarth himself has become a huge hit with the audience. Rajan-Nagendra’s famous compositions like ‘Nammoora Santeli’ from the film ‘Gaali Maathu’ and ‘Sutta Muttalu’ has been remixed for this film. N M Suresh who has seen some miserable flops like ‘Chappaale’, ‘Thananam Thananam’ has produced this film under Sri Tulaja Bhavani Creations. The film is scheduled to hit the screens in January 2009.
